Theodore Henderson’s Money Savings Tips – May

If you would be wealthy, think of saving as well as getting. -Benjamin Franklin

Top Twenty Frugal Tips for May

Don’t wait. It is never too early to start saving money, especially in this economic climate. In a few of my spare moments these days, I’ve compiled some more money-saving tips to help you get started on your way to security and wealth.

Use the bus to get to school or work. This works especially well when you purchase a bus pass which will work out to you using less fuel as well as incurring fewer maintenance costs on your car.
If possible, ride your bike or walk to your destinations. Not only does this save loads of money but it has the added benefit of getting you healthier as well. If you do this often enough, you don’t have to pay for a gym membership!
Try to purchase seasonal items in the off-season. For example, buy your winter clothes at the end of winter/beginning of spring. Buy summer clothing at the end of summer/beginning of fall. This works especially well when you wait until just past the end of the season and the stores must sell as much of the previous stock as possible as the next season’s merchandise hits the shelves.
Don’t buy prepackaged cheese or meat. Go to the deli and have them slice it for you. You can get more food for your money and the deli items usually taste much better. Keep in mind that you may want to buy less of the item because it isn’t loaded with as many preservatives as the prepackaged foods and may not last as long.
Join clubs or organizations at school or work. These can provide you with inexpensive entertainment and many times are a great way to network or find new friends.
Share your living space. Though it is not common these days, renting out a room in your home is a great way to reduce your expenses. If you do not own your home/condo, check with your landlord to determine if they allow subletting.
Wash and reuse plastic bags. Make sure to let them fully dry before using them again.
Brush and floss your teeth regularly. You’ll save on dental expenses in the long run.
Maintain a proper diet and exercise daily. You’ll reduce health costs and it also helps you to feel better and maintain a great attitude.
Here’s an old trick: add water to your shampoo to get more uses.
Bring an empty water bottle with you to the airport. Bottled water at airports is expensive. While you can’t bring any liquids past security, you can bring an empty bottle. Put it in your carry on and fill it up as soon as you get past security.
See if your local zoos, museums, entertainment parks and water parks have annual passes. Often the annual passes may not cost more than the price of a couple of visits.
If you use checks, don’t buy them from the bank. You can get a better deal with other printing companies – especially the online check places like Checks In The Mail.
Buy your baby toys from the thrift store. Give your child the gift of older toys that actually require them to use their imagination. (Make sure to thoroughly clean the toys before giving them to a baby or toddler.)
Sign up for Skype to make long distance phone calls. All it requires is a computer with a microphone and speakers and a decent internet connection. You pay a fixed monthly fee to make as many long distance phone calls as you want.
Get a digital camera instead of using an older film-based camera. Developing photos from film can be expensive compared with printing digital photos yourself. Better yet, don’t print them at all and they are basically free!
Don’t buy extended warranties in most cases. Eighty percent are never used, and they’re a major profit item for the vendor. That’s why they push you so hard to buy them!
If you can, do some freelance work on the side. If you’re a good writer, photographer, artist, or programmer you can make some extra money by selling your talent to companies or individuals looking for those specific talents.
Keep track of your pens and pencils. You’ll spend less on them if you don’t lose them all the time.
Offer to give a service, like a night of free babysitting, as a gift instead of buying an actual present. For married couples with kids, this can usually be worth much more than an actual item.

I would love to hear your money saving tips. Email them to me at info @ thjassociates.com.

Save Money – Reduce Expenses – Live Better

Wealth is not what you own or possess. It is instead the power of your spirit and creativity applied to your life and others in an ethical, positive manner. Money is an aid to make this happen whether it flows to or from you. ~ Proverbs 10:22

How to Increase Your Income at Work Ask for a raise. If you feel you are over performing and are under paid for it then ask for more. A couple of great places to get tips for doing this successfully are http://hotjobs.yahoo.com/ or http://www.monster.com/. Also take the time to research some articles and advice regarding asking for a raise in a turbulent economy before going into your supervisor. You want to feel very confident in what you bring to the company before walking in that door.

Mind Your Focus and Focus Your Mind

Life can feel like a joy or a burden. It all depends on how quickly we shift from fear, anger, or depression back to joy, excitement, and hope. Here’s some important news. Feeling good or bad, depends on our focus. IT ALL DEPENDS ON OUR FOCUS What exactly, you might ask, is “focus?” Focus is whatever we concentrate on — whatever fills our mind. A positive focus such as: I enjoy my job. The kids are doing well. I have great friends. It’s rough now, but we’ll succeed. will result

Your 3 Only Choices When Faced With Problems

Do you believe me when I say that when faced with any problem, we have only three choices? It’s true. We can try to avoid difficulties, control them, or resolve them. Here’s what I mean. Say I’m in an abusive marriage. I can endure the abuse and make excuses for my spouse (avoid). I can fight back (control). Often we swing between the two. Or I can get help, seek counsel, and take positive action (resolve the issue).

Networking is a Science – Part 1

Online networking works, but relationships are the most important part of the process. Using the Internet to exchange ideas, share knowledge and increase visibility will only become more essential in the coming years. How to Approach a Job Search

Be 100% Focused on Your Goal One of the main reasons job searches are either unsuccessful or frustratingly slow is that either you aren’t sure what you want or you aren’t treating it as a “do or die goal”. What this means is simply that you need to have the perseverance and the will to refuse to accept not achieving your goal. In other words you have to be single-minded and goal focused. After all it is “your” job you are chasing after but you have to outlast the pack.

What Qualities Represent a Great Leader?

It’s popular to believe that a cigar chewing, crew-cut, fire breathing son of a gun, gets the most out of people and is the prototype of a great leader. You do occasionally find instances of this but let’s take a moment and think of modern US history from WWII forward. Does this description fit Franklin Delano Roosevelt? No, he doesn’t fit the mold. Harry Truman? No. John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King? No. I think you get my point.
